disruptive technology
A health technology that displaces an established technology, and substantially changes clinical practice.
Note 1: The change to clinical practice may or may not be beneficial. Disruptive technologies often have high and rapid uptake.
Note 2: Examples of disruptive technologies include oral direct acting antivirals for hepatitis C, immunotherapy for cancers, and smartphone medical applications (apps).
